We were proud to plan the 2009 Henry Art Gallery benefit, See Listen Taste Feel! We worked with a group of the most amazing people at The Henry and elsewhere, including Jeppe Hein, the Berlin-based visionary behind the event, to transform a light industrial space in South Lake Union into party central. The party was as delicious as it was beautiful, featuring incredible food by Johnathan Sundstrom from Lark and glam desserts from Bakery Nouveau’s chef/owner William Leaman, Champion De Monde de la Boulangerie. Jeppe Hein created a vision complete with burning barrels in the parking lot to 30 secret ping-pong tables and a large site specific installation entitled 360º Illusion to enchant all who wandered in from Chihuly to SHAG members (Student / Henry Advisory Group). Entertainment was a beautiful chaos including composer Zeke Keeble and bassist Evan Florey-Barnes, Orkestar Zirconium Photos by Jenny Jimenez. Building on our post last week about the amazing cultural creatives we are lucky enough to share our workspace with, I wanted to drop some knowledge on you about what some other members of the studio are up to.
Coming from an adventurous and creative family, the Chen kids mix it up really hardcore; writing and playing their own music, alongside forays into the visual and textile art worlds. At the moment they have reimagined their band and titled it anew.
Please welcome CMYK to the world. If you want to hear them, look no further than to local champions, KEXP. CMYK are featured on 90.3 and the Music that Matters bi-weekly podcast. I checked it out, you should too: Tracklist: Studio Six, world take over status: in progress. Photos of Chen Fam and CMYK by Josh Buessler.
We heart LA. All photos by the indomitable Patrick Wright . The totally awesome art studio aka adventure studio that we work out of here in Seattle’s wonderful International District is a hub of creativity and adventure. One of our cohorts here, Philip Kramer, has added blogger to his growing list of creative enterprises. Check him out! Justine Ashbee is in Barcelona for her solo show at ROJO Gallery . . . called ELECTRIC THREADS! While presenting work made stateside she is also there drawing a mural in the gallery onto sexy black walls! So if you are in Europe, go forth! This is part one in what will be an epic journalistic series that will last until the end of time. It would be easier to just say, “How are parties and adventures similar?” “How are parties and adventures different?” But, here, we tackle the big questions, and by BIG, I definitely mean vague. SO, gentle reader, permit me to escort you into deep thoughts on the AdventureBlog. One way that parties and adventures are related is that they give you the agency to expect the unexpected. Anything could happen. . . Will I meet my future life partner at this party? Will I get thrown in a Turkish prison on this adventure? It’s all about the excitement of the unknown. Parties/adventures are practically the same in that people are oftentimes at the heart of the matter. Whether we choose to share these events with those close to us or we approach them like maverick vagabonds, it is often the people that you meet or the people that you love who will hit you upside the head with the absolute being-aliveness of the moment. Whether it’s a beautiful surprise party thrown by your best pal for you or a stranger welcoming you into their Ger for a piece of fat to gnaw on, it is our shared human experience at parties or inside of adventures that gets the blood flowing through us and has us wishing we could write thank-you notes to everyone we have ever met or get some Kanye mini-blind sunglasses and walk around with Mr. Bluebird on your shoulder rejoicing in the you-ness and me-ness of the entire universe. More to come on this and other topics. Get yer fill of advice, party ideas and adventure tips here on the AdventureBlog! Robert Wade, The Henry Art Gallery’s favorite photographer took some great images at See Listen Taste Feel, the 2009 Henry Art Gallery benefit. Check ‘em out! Hi, dudes. Get twitterpated! Follow us on AdventureTwitter if you want to know what is up with the adventure crew. Here are the lyrics to above-mentioned song by Bobby Day, Rockin’ Robin. He rocks in the tree-top all a day long Rockin’ robin (tweet tweet tweet) Every little swallow, every chickadee A wordy little raven at the bird’s first dance He rocks in the tree-top all a day long Because not only is it time to Twitter, it is time to pray for Spring. HURRY PLEASE. We can only stay in LA for so long because Seattle is the best, but really . . . SPRING, GLORIOUS SPRING . . . come back sooner! Please! See you in the tweetosphere. Also, please enjoy.
